Geo Journal Week #1 Spring Break Road Trippin'
This week was Spring Break. My teenage son is an avid fisherman. He is obsessed! My husband and I thought it would be fun to try Moab. Don't do Moab on Easter weekend unless you have a jeep. We now know every campground up and down the Colorado River is full on Easter weekend. While the fishing was not what my son had hoped for, we were able to see a lot of the states beautiful landscapes! We drove through Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce, Lake Powell, Escalante Grand Staircase, and many many other beautiful sites.
The beautiful back road from Powell to Cedar City. How could I not look forward to this drive? I was fascinated by the rocks in the center seemed so solid and the sediment sloughed off in piles around the rock! I wondered if the rock that was remaining was stronger or younger. This was especially evident in Canyonlands. You could see huge boulders ready to fall off. We also talked about how canyons are formed. My kids all think it was Catastrophism. Below is a picture of a natural bridge that was formed by water. It was neat to explain how the different spheres worked together to create some of the beautiful landscape that we were looking at.

The only little who likes to have his picture taken. I love the stacked rocks behind him!
Family on the way to Moab.
This was a canyon that had a steep switchback road. It was between Grand Staircase and Bryce. It was super steep, and a little dangerous, but oh so cool! The kids missed it all, but I woke up the hubby to show him!
